Did variants in inborn errors of immunity genes contribute to the extinction of Neanderthals?

Neanderthals were a species of archaic humans that became extinct around 40,000 years ago. Modern humans have inherited 1-6% of Neanderthal DNA as a result of interbreeding. These inherited Neanderthal genes have paradoxical influences, while some can provide protection to viral infections, some others are associated with autoimmune/auto-inflammatory diseases.

The validity and reliability of a Thai version of the Angioedema Control Test: Which recall period is preferable?

The Angioedema Control Test (AECT) is a questionnaire that monitors disease control in patients with angioedema, with a recall period of 4 weeks (AECT-4wk) or 3 months (AECT-3mo).

Humoral SARS-CoV-2 immunogenicity wanes 3 months after heterologous inactivated vaccine followed by ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 in autoimmune rheumatic diseases

Alongside vaccine hesitancy, impaired and waning immunity in autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs) are barriers to immunization. The timeframe of immunity waning in ARD remains unclear.

COVID-19 Vaccine Allergy Safety Track (VAS-Track) pathway: real-world outcomes on vaccination rates and antibody protection

Misdiagnosed vaccine-related “allergies” lead to unnecessary vaccine deferrals and incomplete vaccinations, leaving patients unprotected against COVID-19. To overcome limitations and queues for Allergist assessment, the “VAS-Track” pathway was developed to evaluate patients via a multi-disciplinary triage model including nurses, non-specialists, and Allergists.

The association between MTHFR polymorphism, dietary methyl donors, and childhood asthma and atopy

Studies investigating the genetic association of the C677T methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) genotype and dietary methyl donors with asthma and atopy are limited, and have variable results.

Improving cytokine-induced killer cell expansion using a gas-permeable culture method for clinical-scale production

Cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells are a heterogeneous group of immune cells that exert potent MHC-unrestricted cytotoxicity toward various cancer cells in both solid and hematological malignancies.

Disease activity of patients with chronic urticaria receiving COVID-19 vaccines

Cutaneous adverse events after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine were identified. The disease activity of urticaria after a COVID-19 vaccine has never been explored in chronic urticaria patients.

Real-life efficacy and drug continuation of secukinumab in treating moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in Aegean region of Turkey: a multicenter retrospective study and systematic review of the literature

Secukinumab was demonstrated to be efficient in the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in the phase studies. Real-life treatment experiences obtained from patients that do not meet the inclusion criteria of phase studies can provide valuable information on efficacy and safety results. Results may also differ in different ethnic populations.
