Asia-Pacific survey of physicians’ perceptions and managements of chronic rhinosinusitis

The diagnosis and management of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) may vary between otolaryngologists and allergists. Moreover, the adherence of different practitioners to European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps (EPOS)2020 guideline recommendations has not been previously ascertained in Asia-Pacific regions.

Maintained disease control and steroid-sparing effect of subcutaneous immunotherapy in allergic rhinitis and asthma

Allergen immunotherapy is the only currently available treatment strategy that modifies the immune response to the causative allergen and induces clinical improvement and a steroid-sparing effect.

N-acetylcysteine potentiates the tumor cytotoxicity of cytokine-induced killer cells

Cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells are an ex vivo expanded heterogeneous population of natural killer (NK)-like T cells that can exert potent MHC-unrestricted antitumor activity. A number of pre-clinical and clinical studies have demonstrated that CIK cells can serve as a safe and potent immunotherapy of malignant tumors. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has been demonstrated to enhance the T-cell functions by increasing their proliferation and cytokine production.

Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia after the second ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination: A possible immunological mechanism independent of anti-platelet factor 4 antibody

Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a distinctive syndrome characterized by unusual site thrombosis accompanied by thrombocytopenia following adenoviral vector vaccines against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Platelet-activating anti-platelet factor 4-dependent antibodies (anti-PF4 Abs) have been identified as pathogenic antibodies in almost all patients.

Invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells response in human melioidosis

Melioidosis is an infectious disease caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei. In infected mice, IFN-γ can provide protection against B. pseudomallei infection. Invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells are a subpopulation of T lymphocytes, activated by recognition of glycolipid ligands such as α-Galactosylceramide presented by CD1d, produce and secrete several cytokines, including IFN-γ and IL-4. The response of iNKT cells in human melioidosis was then investigated.

Role of interleukin 5-induced eosinophils in interleukin 33-triggered airway inflammation in mice

Interleukin (IL)-5 is essential for allergen induced eosinophilic airway inflammation, but not activation of T helper type 2 (Th2) cells in the lung. Although an excessive Th2 reaction is observed without IL-5 signaling, the mechanisms have remained unknown.

Nivolumab-induced diffuse type 2 rhinosinusitis: A case report

Nivolumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor is used to treat advanced metastatic malignancies. Data showed that nivolumab can cause exacerbated response of T-Helper 2 cells and lead to airway inflammation.

Do aggravating rhinologic symptoms at work indicate occupational exposure? A cross-sectional outpatient clinic study

Air impurities can exacerbate or cause rhinologic diseases. However, only a few studies have assessed rhinologic patients’ symptoms at work.

Concomitant chronic spontaneous urticaria treatment might hinder the diagnosis of occupational latex-induced anaphylaxis: A case report

Cutaneous manifestations of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) are identical to type 1 hypersensitivity reactions. The daily occurrence of rash from occupational allergy could be misinterpreted as CSU exacerbation.
